What happens if I get a D in a class in the fall but retake it in winter?

Hello, So im at a borderline between a C and D in my Calc class. I like to think ahead, so let's say I do get a D but take it in winter for a better grade? My winter session ends the same day as Jan 31st aka the say we need to update admissions on our grades. I know it looks bad, but will they even look at my winter grades even if it's in?
