I got into UC davis my senior year in high school but decided to play college soccer at a small liberal arts school in new york. but my major is biology and realized if i wanted to go to med school im better off at a UC than a small liberal arts school. Im currently a freshman and applied as lower division transfer to uc davis and uc irvine for the fall of 2017. anyone know what my chances of getting in are?? decisions dont come out til late april and im just so anxious to know

UC Transfer with a B in Major Prereq?
I'm currently a sociology major attending a CC. This is my third semester and I'm planning on applying for transfer this Fall, but one problem is, I got a high B in Statistics which is a prereq for sociology majors transferring to UCLA. Will this hurt my chances of getting accepted?

UC Transfer FAQ
Ok so school doesn't start in another 3 weeks for me and I'm bored. I found this board really helpful during my uc transfer process, so I decided to make this thread to help answer questions frequently asked by people. If any of the veterans of the uc transfer process have anything to add to the list please do so. I probably don't have everything covered, such as transferring for the winter quarter or the transfer process for UCB Haas, which is another separate thing.
1.What do the UC's look for in a transfer student?
Mainly GPA and Prerequisites. Very very important. If you do not complete your prereq's you are at a disadvantage, especially for people who apply to competitive majors such as ucla biz econ. This year the cut off gpa was 3.8. I think someone on this board got rejected with a 3.77 gpa. Ucla and Ucb tend to be more strict on prereq's while the other uc's are a little more forgiving on prereq's. Also, you should complete the required math and english. Extracurricular activities can help, but I personally don't think it matter as much as gpa and prereq's. My advice would be do activities that interest you or activities that will help build your resume for grad school. I think some of you are considering grad school. About personal statements, I will get to that later.
2.TAP/TAG/TAA-Transfer alliance programs
Another topic that I frequently see come up on this board. For those who do not know, Ucla's tap program does not guarantee you admission. It only gives you priority. Also, it only works for the college of letters and science. So if you're an engineer major, it won't work for you. Yes, people have been rejected from ucla even though they have TAP certified for ucla. This is usually because they do not have the prereq's completed. Many people have debated whether TAP helps. It really helps if you are a borderline candidate. For example, someone on this board got into ucla biz econ with a 3.5-3.6 gpa. Even though the cut off gpa was a 3.8 for the major, that person was still accepted because he had priority through the tap program. For more information see this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=225563
For those wondering if Berkeley has a transfer alliance program, I believe they are starting one for a limited number of schools this year. Someone on this board will probably know more in detail. As for the other programs, I think they pretty much guarantee you admission to the school, such as Uci's PAIF or Ucsd TAG.
3.Up to when do the UC's look at your grades?
The fall semester before you transfer. After you apply, they will send you another application during january to fill out your fall grades. The deadline for the application is usually around the end of feburary. So for those who have winter intersession the application will usually be due before the winter grades are out. That's why I don't think they really look at your winter grades unless it's really important, such as a major prereq class.
4.What happens if I don't complete all my major prereq's by fall?
You will not be affected. As long as you complete your prereq's by spring before you transfer you'll be fine. Some uc's will even let you complete some classes during the summer. But this depends on the school's policy.
5.Igetc (only for ccc students)
I don't think it is required for you to transfer with it. I have seen people transfer without igetc. But it is highly recommended because you when you transfer you have your major classes to take and upper division electives to take. The uc's want you to graduate in time. Also, you're saving money too by finishing up your ge classes. The good thing about finishing it is that you don't have to take any more lower division ge classes when you transfer. Like completing your prereq's, you must finish your ge classes by the spring semester in order for the uc's to consider igetc as completed. I'm not sure if you can still take ge classes during the summer and still have the uc's accept igetc. Perhaps someone here knows the answer. For the uc-uc transfer students they have their own system of finishing up the ge classes.
6.I'm transferring from another uc/csu/out of state. Am I doomed?
No. People on this board have successfully transferred from another 4-year university. It is supposedly harder because ccc students get priority over all the other schools, but it is not impossible.
7.Personal statements
People have debated over the importance of it. I don't think it is as important as gpa or prereq's, but you should still not bs it. It will probably benefit borderline candidates the most. Here is a very useful thread on personal statements written by cardinal focused. http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof07_mjr.htm

Remember the stats of the people on cc tend to be higher than average bc people who go on this board tend to be smart motivated students.

12.After I am admitted, what gpa do I need to maintain?
Ftw, you'll have a provisional contract that will tell you what gpa you need to keep up. Just to be absolutely safe I recommend getting at least a B in all of your classes.
13.Do the uc's look at SAT/ACT and letters of recommendations?
For those who do not know, the answer is no for both.
14. Will my chances be affected if I stay a ccc for a very long time?
Most people take 2-3 years to transfer. If you stay longer, you can still get in as long as you finished your prereq's. I know someone who was at a ccc for 4 years before she transfered into ucb. But, it probably won't look too good if you're applying for grad schools.
15.Does going to a certain ccc matter?
It does not matter which ccc you go to. As long as you complete you're prereq and maintain your gpa you'll be fine. It's not worth driving an extra hour to go a better ccc unless you want they have a honors/transfer alliance program that your cc doesn't offer.
16. Dropping a class or changes to what you reported after filling out the application.
For those who are starting the application process, this might be a far away thought. But things do happen and we end up dropping classes or making changes to what we reported on the application. This happened to me after I updated the classes that I would take for spring. I ended up dropping a class I reported that I would take. If it does happen, please report it to the admission people asap. Honesty is the best policy. All of the uc's will have a specific contact info for all of these issues. Do not wait until the very last minute to report it. Otherwise you'll be stuck in pending mode while you see other people getting their acceptance letters. And of course if you don't report it, they will have the right to rescind your admission. Some of you might wonder what would happen after you report the changes. The adcom will review the changes you made and will tell you if it affects you.
17. Does my gpa start over after I transfer to a uc?
Yes, you're gpa starts with a blank slate after you transfer. You do not get to keep your gpa. The exception is that you are a uc-uc transfer student. Uc-uc transfer students get to keep their gpa.
I hope future uc applicants will find this thread useful. If there are any mistakes on this thread please correct it. Feel free to add to this list of FAQ's.

Transferring from a CC as a Single Mother
Hello,
Just wondering if anyone has advice or previous experiencest that could help me and other single mothers trying to further their education...
I have applied to UCSB, UCD, UCSC and UCLA
Major: Communications
GPA: 3.5
Pre reqs done by spring 2017
Taking 21 units this semester... feeling optimistic to get a 4.0
Should bump GPA to 3.64
I'm 25, and when I went to college straight out of High school I got a semester of bad grades and never went back, however I have an upward scale of good grades since returning 5 years later.
I am a single mother, I work, I attend school full time and I played soccer for the college team.
My personal insight questions were based on struggles from low income family, first generation college student, student athlete and being a single mother.
I was wondering if they would take into consideration my applications.. does anyone current have a similar situation? Or know of someone? Just curious to see what I'm facing.

Transfer from community college to California Maritime Academy
Transfer from Cabrillo College to CSUM Cal Maritime Academy
I was wondering how these courses will transfer to CSUM from Cabrillo College :
Math 5A,B,C. Calculus
Physics 4ABC physics for scientists and engineers
Chemistry 1AB general chemistry
ENGLISH 1&2
Will these courses be equivalent to CSUM courses in physics, chemistry, calculus and English for a mechanical engineering major? How about facilities engineer?
Thank you
I really like this college because of the great price and the small size!
Do you know of any colleges that are a similar price and in California offering majors in mechanical engineering?

UC transfer from out of state university, california resident
I'm a student at UW-Madison originally from California, I got recruited to row at Wisconsin, and then quit and now I want to transfer to a UC to be closer to home and for cost benefits. I am a freshman currently and want to transfer for fall 2018 to any of the UCs. I am a pre-nursing major at UW-M, but want to apply as a psychology or biology major. My GPA for fall 2016 was a 3.58. Any tips or any help figuring out my chances of getting in would be appreciated, thanks.

Transfer from CSU to CC to UC?
Hi there, so I am an International undergrad freshman (started my classes on spring 2017) going to California State University, Sacramento. So, as you might've guessed, I study in a CSU but I would like to get into a UC. I've got my eyes on UCLA. So, I decided to transfer to a CC and then the UC cuz after all my research work on transferring I realized that the chances of transferring from a CSU to UC is very slim.
Also, in the site it was stated that a transfer would need 60 semester units to transfer + be a junior. What does that mean? Does that mean I have to complete 3 years in CC or do I just have to complete 60+ units to be considered a junior.
I am very determined to complete 60 units before fall 2018
Would one of you take a risk of going to CC just to transfer to a UC after traveling to a whole a new country?
Also should I talk about this decision to my CSU advisor or is it just too rude to talk about stuff like this?
Thank you so very much for taking out the time to help me out. I know I am all over the place.

SMC TAP program
Hey guys!
I've been around on CC for a while and I barely post but this time around the year, its going to get a bit messy.
Anyways, I am a senior high school student graduating and wanting to attend Santa Monica College for 2 years and then transfer to UCLA/UCB.
Now I know SMC has a TAP agreement with UCLA and all that, but I was wondering how you complete the donors program ?
Is it complete after you complete all your pre reqs that I found on assist.org? or is there a special application/process for completing the program?

Undergraduate @ SJSU vs. Transfer to UCLA
I'm currently a senior in high school and I've been accepted to San Jose State University as Undeclared.
There's only one problem, though. I'm not 100% sure if going to SJSU is right for me. I've visited the school twice and I do think that the atmosphere, the community, as well as the educational side of the school is great, but the only thing keeping me from choosing San Jose is if I would be better off attending a nearby community college and transferring to UCLA or some other UC that might offer me better/more opportunities than SJSU could.
Some points that might be helpful:
- I am a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area so I'm more familiar with SJSU than with the LA basin
- I have not been given any type of financial aid at all aside from choosing loans
- Leaning toward Political Science and/or International Relations as my designated majors
For any help that I can get right now, decision day is in two weeks and I have in this time frame to decide. I am hoping for any of you to know which path would be better for me in the long-run.
Thank you all in advance.
TL;DR - What's a better choice for me: Attending SJSU or going to a community college and hoping to transfer to UCLA or a UC in general?

Do W's affect TAG decision?
Hey, what's up guys. I just had a quick question about getting W's and if it affects my TAG decision. I'm going to apply for TAG in fall 2018, but already have 2 W's on my transcript. I'm going to be most likely applying for UC Davis' TAG system, but am worried that it'll get denied because of the 2 W's. Also, how much does it affect someone's regular UC application if they have 2 or more W's on their transcript?

PHYS2: C

CISC++:Pending
I would like to say my essay is pretty strong, but I'm not exactly sure. I basically discussed that because of my circumstance as a high school student, I was convinced that I would get into the UC, only be rejected. That moment I realized that admission is something to be earned. And that I set my goals beyond college; getting into UC school is a goal on its own but the ultimate goal comes after I graduated from it.
One last thing. I heard that UC in recent years has been facing lots of criticism by its constituents for accepting more foreign students and out-of-State students than Californian students. And, the likely result of this is that this year, UC will accept more in-State students. Is there any basis for this claim? Or is this my wishful thinking?:(
Anyway, if you can give me a insight, that will be fantastic.

Send SAT scores to UCs for transfer?
I was finishing up transfer apps for some privates and I'm sending SAT scores and I was wondering whether UCs care at all for SAT scores if I send it to them. I think I have good scores, so I'm just wondering if it will be a complete waste of my time/money if I do so? Would they consider them at all or do they just throw them out?
