Two Transferable Courses in English Composition

I am an undergraduate student from an out-of-state 4-year public university who wants to transfer into a UC. However, UCs require that I take two English composition courses. I have the AP credit for AP Lang/Lit, but that only counts for one course. I am currently taking an oral communications course this semester -- would this count as an English composition course? If not, what can I do to ensure that an English course that I register for at this university equates to a required English Composition course?

What if I fail one class right before I transfer (prerequisite)

I've been at IVC for 2 years now and I am finally transferring in the fall to UCI, however, my prerequisites require me to take 4 classes of a single language. However, my final class is causing me a lot of trouble and I really don't know if I'll be able to pass it. The other 3 classes I was able to pass with 2 A's and the last class a B. I don't think I will get an F in this class but perhaps a D. Also if I withdraw is that an automatic rejection to my application?

I've passed every single one of my other classes with a B but mostly they are A's. My GPA is currently a 3.66 and I'm not sure what will happen if I do fail this class. If they accept me around April or May and then I fail, how would that be affected? I need a lot of help and would appreciate some advice. I've tried to look into seeing if my high school classes would be able to count towards it but since it was a different language I don't think it will work.

I hope to pass this current class but the workload I have to put into it is starting to hinder the other classes I'm taking. Please help!

I plan on transferring for fall 2021 so I'm wondering how I should adequately prepare myself.

Major of interest for UCSD: political science data analytics (https://polisci.ucsd.edu/undergrad/major-and-minor-requirements/data_analytics.html)

Current UC GPA: 3.5 (hopefully it'll go to a 3.7 at the end of this semester)

--I also plan on joining the political science honor society and officially join my school's honors program so I can get TAP certified (I know its mainly for UCLA, but hopefully it'll increase my chances for UCSD since they no longer do TAG). Also, I have a part time job (been there for a 1yr and half)

The courses that I have taken/currently taking related to the major:
--AP US Gov (a 4, ik UCSD only accepts a score of 5)
--Political Theory
--International Relations
--Java Programming 1
--Intro to Philosophy
--Microeconomics
--Intro to Business Honors (somewhat related to the field)

Plan on taking:
--Intro to Statistics
--Comparative Politics
--Python Programming 1 and 2 (if my school offers the second course next yr)
--US History

7-course pattern vs IGETC

I was told by my CC counselor that 7-course can be fulfilled instead of IGETC. Does the 7-course pattern completely satisfy general education requirements and can be used as a substitute for IGETC? I have two more courses remaining for IGETC certification. Would it be worth completing it if I already have the 7-course pattern requirements completed?

Am I a Community College Transfer or OOS transfer?

$

Hi All,

I am a transfer applicant from an OOS school but I have been taking Community College Classes concurrently to transfer. I have met all my major requirements for my major based on assist.org by taking Community College classes.

I have enough credit to be considered a CA Community College Transfer and meet the 90 Quarter Unit requirement based purely on Community College + AP Credit. However, I am still dual-enrolled in my OOS school (I am taking Community College Classes + OOS Classes).

Does anyone know how my app will be reviewed? Will I be looked at as an OOS transfer applicant or CA Community College transfer Applicant.

For what it's worth I got the UCLA Transfer Alumni Scholarship email which is meant for Community College Transfer only (from what I understand)

Thanks!

Listed the incorrect college for an online course on my application

Hello,

I recently found out that an online course I listed on my UC application was actually hosted at another college in the same cc district. The two colleges share the same transcript/grade portal, and I completely overlooked the small notation while going over my transcript during app season.

I submitted another TAU last night, and noted that the two colleges share the same transcript/viewing portal in the extra info section.

Am I screwed? Is my TAG done for?

Talk to me about Regents for transfer students

Who gets them? Based on stats alone? Who decides? When do people find out? I've read something about being invited to interview (or maybe it was something other than interview), what's that about? What are some of the differences at the different schools? What are the benefits? How has regents affected decisions for people? Anything else?

Thank you in advance.

Your UC Application, Immediate Response Requested

I got this email in the mail the other day and it said this.

We have received your University of California Undergraduate Application for Admission and
Scholarships. Thank you for your interest in our campus.

This is a second request for information because you did not respond to our first request or because we
need additional information before we can make an admission decision:

Please note that official transcripts are not needed at this time.

We must receive this information within five days of the date of this message, or processing of your
application may be delayed or canceled.

Okay so turns out they sent me an email on the 10th of February and I missed it now they sent it a second time, am I screwed? Because they said even on the first email if I do not respond within 5 days they might cancel but they sent a new email so I am not sure how to feel.

I am a first year at CSULA in my second semester. I've been thing about transferring since the start of the year. I was told that I could not transfer between the CSU and UC system but on other accounts i've heard it is just hard. Well I am committed to transferring. My hopes are to get admitted into UCI or UCLA. Currently I have 3.7 GPA but I am not familiar with the process of transferring. I'm honestly not sure how to start this process or what to do as of right now. Some tips/ advice would be really helpful in trying to achieve this

UC Riverside Fall 2020 Transfers Thread

Hello there everyone!! I haven't seen a transfer thread for UCR Fall 2020 yet, so I decided to start one. Feel free to post your stats or any questions, comments or concerns you may have throughout the process.

I'll start off with my stats.

Major: Biochemistry
Alternative Major: Microbiology
GPA: 3.4
Major Prep: Will finish by spring 2020

Transfer: From a CSU (I know I have a small chance, but hey, one last chance at a dream right?)
EC's/Community Service: Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. Dean's List. Pre-Health Society member. Taught chemistry experiments to young boys and girls scouts. Hospital Volunteer for 1 year. Gymnastics Coach/ Volunteer in HS for 2 years. Participant in the International Fair in college and Multicultural Fair in HS for 4 years. Previous part-time job as a Cryotherapy Technician
Personal Statements: Relatively strong, according to a couple of tutors and professors.

Applying to: UCSD, UCR, UCI, and UCSC

Good luck to everyone who applies!

UCI vs. UCSD vs. UCSB for English

I live just outside of Los Angeles and will not be moving after I transfer from my CCC. I will be commuting due to not waiting to uproot my family for undergrad and I do plan to either go on grad or professional school so GPA is important.

I am trying to narrow my list of UC schools to apply to so I can ensure I meet all the major prep requirements. Which two would you apply to between UCI, UCSB & UCSD for English keeping in mind I am also applying to UCLA (English) & UCR (Creative Writing) and I am not moving outside of the Los Angeles area.

UCI
Pros: Close to home, respected English department, creative writing concentration
Cons: requires more pre-reqs compared to UCSB and requires foreign language (which I would need to start from level 1)

UCSD
Pros: Seems more highly regarded than UCSB but I don’t know much about if that regard extends to English or is just in STEM. Has Literature & Writing major
Cons: requires more pre-reqs compared UCSB and different pre-reqs than UCI and requires foreign language (which I would need to start from level 1), distance of commute is intense but would likely only be 2-3 times per week.

UCSB
Pros: They have a College of Creative Studies Literature and Writing major option. No additional foreign language requirement, I can take two lit in translation classes after transfer. Only one pre-req still needed and it is also needed for UCR/UCI & UCB.
Cons: Distance of commute is intense but would likely only be 2-3 times per week.
and seems less regarded in English than the other UCs

So….which two would you apply to between UCI, UCSB & UCSD for English keeping in mind I am also applying to UCLA & UCR and I am not moving outside of the Los Angeles area.

Withdraw with a W UCLA Admissions

Should I withdraw with a W?
I'm considering dropping Microeconomics with a W. This is my first withdraw and semester at a California Community College.
I heard something about prereqs/IGETC?
I'm transferring for Economics will this W impact admissions?

If I updated my TAU (with a new grade) do I still need to email each of the UCs?

$

I had recently got a grade for a Spring Semester class, so I updated my already submitted TAU in early February with that grade.

It's been a couple of weeks now, but I was thinking: should I email each of the UCs I applied to, and let them know about the minor update?

Online, many transfer blogs say to individually email each UC if you make updates to the TAU after Jan 31st, so I am a bit confused as to what I should do in my case.

It's a minor thing, no class changes were made only the update of an 'In-Progress' grade to an actual letter grade. I am wondering if it's worth emailing the UCs even though I updated my TAU with the letter grade.

Thanks!

Will I be rejected by UCI if I get a C in my calculus series?

I got a C in calculus 1 and an A in calculus 2. It says on the site that I must get a 3.0 or higher in these courses.

What's the most important factor for UCLA Engineering admission?

$

I've been told a lot of conflicting information such as how having extracurriculars is important. Some people told me that EC's are not important and that it's solely based on your performance in your major prep courses / completion. I've also heard that engineering doesn't care much about essays.

So anyone know what's the most important thing? Do essays / EC's really matter?
