Hey guys! Hope your winter break has been going well. :) I am waitlisted for a major pre-req class for UCLA and I am unsure if I will get the class until Feb. Do I just state that the class is still planned on my TAU? Thank you!! :D

Question about TAU

So, my friend is wait listed for a class but we are worried she won't get in. So my question is, if she registers for a different class just in case she does not get into her original class would that look bad in the TAU? Assuming she gets into her wait listed class would dropping her back up class (without a w) look bad since it is in the TAU?

Transferring after 6 years at community college.

Hey all I'm 23 years old and have been attending my local community college since I graduated high school at the age of 18. After my graduation I began helping my father with his company because we are an extremely low income family and I had no choice but to help as much as I could often working full time. Throughout this time I went to my community college with no idea what I wanted to do. After years of taking classes that covered my general education requirements the (IGETC) and catching up on my math and science courses because I was behind after graduating from high school I found my love for computer science. The past 5 years I've been working part-time/full-time hours helping my family, taken over 8 semesters of math courses, and have finally reached Calculus 3 with a 3.4 GPA. After this upcoming semester I will have completed Linear Algebra, 3 semesters of physics and every possible class thats transferable to UCSC as a Computer Science Major from my CC. My only concern is that getting to this point has taken me 5 years and by the time I apply to transfer next semester it will be almost 6 years at my CC! I was recently told by a friend that colleges will look down on this and I wasn't sure if it was true? My goal was to complete all my possible transferable courses before transferring because I will be relying 100% on loans/fafsa to get me through a UC. Will this be impacting me negatively when trying to transfer? My primary school of choice is UC Santa Cruz which I believe has a 2.8 GPA requirement for transfer students. Is this something I should be worried about? If so is there anything I can do and does the same apply towards the CAL STATES? Thanks for your time!

Next year I'm going to begin my applications to universities. It has been my dream to go to UC Berkeley for a while now. I know my GPA seems low for UC Berkeley, but I'm a special case. I am currently 16 years old and attending a middle college high school where i simultaneously take college and high school classes. So far i have a total of 29 units and plan on having 60 units by Spring of 2018. My high school GPA is only a 3.7 and i have about 40 hours of community service. What are my chances of getting into Berkeley as a transfer and what more can i do by the time i apply?

I was wondering if someone could give some insight or advice regarding a UC to UC transfer. I just finished my first quarter at Davis (originally from SoCal) and really want to try hard to transfer to Los Angeles. It's just a matter of preference and my interest in Cognitive Science. Any advice/insight would be very helpful. Please and Thank you.

Computer Science Transfer (IVC to UCI) HELP

Hi, First post here, I plan on transferring to UCI from IVC in Computer Science and just want some requirements clarified. I already submitted my TAG and plan on submitting the standard transfer submission in November. So I took Math 3A in the summer at IVC and now I am currently taking Math 3B which is a pain and I screwed two test already. So it seems that I have to withdraw, how severe is the impact of one W? I plan on taking Math 3B again next semester (Spring) however if I do that I will have to skip Math 26 (Linear Algebra) is that a requirement for transfer to UCI? I wasn't sure on assist, please let me know. I am so stressed about this!! My GPA is at a 3.7 currently, my overall total is 79.50/119.25 units according to UCTAP planner. So I have been taking a bunch of classes for the major, here is a list of everything I took so far: C PROGRAMMING INTRO TO PYTHON C++ PROGRAMMING JAVA PROGRAMMING TRIGONOMETRY PRE-CALCULUS ANALY GEO/CALCULUS I(I) AMER HIST FROM 1870 HISTORY OF PHOTO INTRO TO PHYS ANTHRO Intro Env. Studies INTRO/COLLEGE WRITNG WRITING CONFERENCE COLLEGE WRITING 1 Currently Taking: INTRO TO ERTH SCIENCE COLLEGE WRITING 2 COM ORG/ASSM LANG I ANALY GEO/CALCULUS II (WILL HAVE TO DROP) AMERICA AFTER BOMB Next Semester: CS 41 PSYC 1 CS 40B And I will have to do Math 3B again so I can't take Math 26 as I initially planed. So please let me know if I need to take Math 26 linear algebra for TAG or admission to UCI. I am confused by what assist says as it says No course articulated or linear algebra Appreciate the help! Thanks Other questions I got: 1) I took some 0 units Supervised Tutoring courses I listed them in my TAG but I am unable to list them in the standard transfer admissions page as 0 units, it gives an error. Should I still list them?

NYU Stern freshman transferring to CCC and UC? Need advice

I graduated hs with a 2250 SAT and a 4.5 gpa. I got waitlisted/rejected from my dream schools, UCB and UCLA, so I chose NYU Stern over UCSD. I've tried to get involved in clubs/activities and I've met some really nice people, but after a semester, I'm not liking it here. I want a college with more of a community and campus environment. I can't justify spending 70k on tuition for 4 years on a school I'm not very happy at. I'm confused as to what my options are now. I could transfer to a good local CCC for a few semesters and aim for UCB and UCLA to major in polisci or econ. What are the steps I need to take? Any advice or testimonials from people with similar situations? Thank you.

I figured it was about time to start this - we have the UCLA one. It is fairly early, but the more prepared we are, the better. So, yeah. Open discussion I suppose. Has anyone started their personal statement prompts? Any ideas/tips regarding them? Would anyone be willing to exchange and read/edit/give feedback for personal statements? Any thoughts or concerns regarding the process as a whole?

Transfer to UCLA Communications

I'm currently a freshman at a 4-year who is transferring to a CC next year and HOPEFULLY to UCLA the following year. I know UCLA communications is nearly impossible to get into, and I want to do everything possible to help my chances. My current gpa is 3.93. I plan on being TAP certified and completing IGETC and all the prereqs except 1 (it's not offered at my CC). For those that successfully transferred into the program, what were your stats and do you have any tips??? Also for those who were rejected, what were your stats? Thank you!

Chance of admission to UCLA as a transfer from UC Berkeley? Will chance back.

As a back up to getting rejected from Haas, I applied for UCLA's Business Economics as my preferred major and Math/economics as my alternative major because I know Business Economics is pretty competitive. My current GPA with most prereqs finished (I say most because I'm still not sure how I will satisfy the managerial accounting prereq because that class isn't offered to lower classmen nor a pre-business major prerequisite) is 3.73. Can anyone provide any insight as to what my chances of admission to UCLA as a transfer may be with this information?

My UC transfer chance?? {Got a W and tend to retake the class in another school? }

HI guys, During the last semester, I got a W with my ENG100 because I think that my grade leading to Bs or Cs. This is my first semester. I were too new to know how hard it was to get an A in this class at my school. The teachers almost expect a lot in their students, while I'm not a native English speaker. Now I tend to enroll an easier class in another college. I know English is one of the mandatory courses contributing major percentage in transcript evaluation. My questions are: 1/ Does my W hurt my chance to UC? 2/ Does it raise a flag when I got a W and retake this class in another school? I am preparing myself to apply for top UC (UCLA, Berkely, San Diego, USC) in the next two years. English classes are my nightmare, while others have no problem with me. Thanks

Having problems with Berkeley Major Prereqs form. Math 1a and 1B AP scores.

I got a 5 on AP Calc BC, so I got credit for the first two calc classes, (Math 1a and 1B at berkeley), and I didn't take college level courses for those (I took multi, linear algebra, and diff eq in college). But on the major prereq form theres no option to satisfy the requirements with AP scores, and its forcing me to enter a class. What should I do? I'm applying as BA CS(LS) major btw.

Transferring OUT of UCR

Hey all, I'm a current freshman at UCR and I just finished up my first quarter with a 4.0. I don't really like the surrounding environment at UCR and the rigor isn't quite what I was expecting from a UC. I was looking at transferring to either UCLA or UCSD. I was wondering if any intercampus transfers out of UCR have any advice to give (especially those who got into UCLA/UCSD/UCB). What school did you transfer into? What was your major/GPA/GEs/ECs? Why did you transfer? Are you happy with your decision?

Yeah, apps aren't due for another three months but getting discussion started early can't hurt. Post your stats/ECs/major, what your situation is, ask for or give advice/chances, etc.. Hopefully we can all support each other through another stressful round of college applications. I don't have a GPA yet because I'm transferring after one year with AP creds covering the other year, so this fall will be everything for me. Applying as an econ major.

Anyone know how competitive UCI's Informatics program is?

$

When I initially submitted my application for transfer, I indicated Computer Science as my first choice and Informatics as my second choice. After some extensive thinking (I do not want to do software engineering as a career, but rather product management) and discussing with friends that are majoring in Computer Science at UCI, I decided to submit a change of major on my UCI portal. My first choice is now Informatics. My grade point average isn't too hot, embarrassingly, it is at a 3.05. It will jump to around 3.4 after spring semester (I got an F in a course this past fall). My personal statements and EC's are relatively good. I was then wondering if anyone had any experience and or knowledge of Informatics at UCI? According to the data at https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major for Informatics at UCI, the major is not heavily impacted but there seems to be an incredibly low admit rate. Thank you, and cheers! P.S. If you know anything else about the major itself and how the program/major is, do let me know.

Moved: Anyone know how competitive UCI's Informatics program is?

I was wondering how competitive this major would be. What are the class sizes like? How about grading? Demography? Many internationals? Smart kids? Anyone heard or in that major?
